DIY Potted Cactus/ Succulents Felt Ornaments
I’m an Arizona girl through and through so when designing this year’s Christmas ornaments I knew this year’s tree wouldn’t feel right without some potted cactus friends.
Creating DIY cactus Christmas ornament is simple and totally thorn free. Sew up some sweet succulents this season; they make a great gift for the cactus lover in your life and their small sizes makes great desk decor long after Christmas has passed. I’ve included patterns for a 3-D saguaro, aloe and barrel cacti. Check out the step by step process and learn to sew up a desert full of felt Christmas cactus

DIY Barrel Cactus Ornament
Cut out pot shape, pot rim and pot base from printed felt cut soil from sand color
Fold pot so the short ends meet, overcast stitch up the side with the print facing outwards. Set aside.
To make a barrel cactus sew up each of the curves on the top and bottom of felt cactus template with matching thread and an overcast stitch.
Leave the side open, turn inside out so the knots don’t show before stuffing and sewing closed.
Run a stitch around the open end and pull to close. The other end should meet in a pointed tip when sewn together.
Sew through cactus in random areas with white embroidery thread and a small stitch, pull the ends through and knot. To make the “thorns” look softer rub the knot with your finger.
Sew cactus smaller side down to sand top with a few stitches along the base.
Sew soil to top of the pot with an overcast stitch. You will cover this with the rim so thread color doesn’t matter.
Stuff lightly and sew base to end just as you did the soil. Glue rim into place and sew a loop through the center to hang.
DIY Aloe Ornament
Create the pot body using the instructions above. Set aside.
Cut out all three aloe shapes from felt.
Stack together and sew a few large stitches into the center in a circular shape.
Pull to curve the leaves inward and knot to hold.
Attach aloe to the sand colored top by sewing through the center into the top a few times. Sew aloe soil top to pot as shown above, stuff lightly, sew base into place.
Glue on rim and add loop to hang if desired.
DIY Saguaro Cactus Ornament
Create the pot body using the instructions above. Set aside.
Cut out two saguaro cactus shapes and over cast stitch around the edge, leaving the base open as marked on template
Stuff lightly and add thorns as shown in DIY barrel cactus pattern above.
Fold soil top in half and cut a small slit in the center, you can always make this bigger so start small.
Pull unsewn base of saguaro cactus through the slit and fold sides upward. Sew into place. Sew soil top to pot as shown above, stuff lightly, sew base into place. Glue on rim and add loop to hang if desired.
