While felt avocados and chestnuts are quirky and a little refined, kids love to play with the foods they enjoy most and few things hold the childhood allure of a box of chicken nuggets complete with a dipping sauce.
This sweet little DIY chicken nuggets play set will create 7 fun felt food chicken nuggets, a cheerfully detailed felt chicken nugget box, and delightful dipping sauce cup.
Happy meal indeed!
For what started out as such a simple idea these nuggets were a bit tricky. Some early versions sewed up looking like potatoes or smashed peanuts. I played with color and scale, added wrinkles and divots and tried a sea of shapes before hitting on a weird but amazing idea…use fur felt!
The addition of fur felt really makes these felt food chicken nuggets look breaded. Not to mention they are so soft and and dare I say cute?
Making these felt chicken nuggets couldn’t be easier! You can use this easy pattern or even freehand your shapes. (How fun would it be to go for an omage to dino nuggets?) These whimsical felt chicken nuggets sew up quick and easy!

Stuff felt chicken nugget and sew closed with the same stitch. Repeat with remaining nuggets.
Sew box front onto one of the bottom pieces with white thread and an overcast stitch.
Sew short sides to the box on both sides of the bottom box piece. Set aside.

Sew back to bottom.
Your box should look like this.

Repeat the process to create two identical box shapes.Lay red stripe piece over one completed box at an angle. Cut off where top flap ends.
Continue sewing stripe on front and bottom.
Overcast stitch the stripe down along the edges. (In the photos I did his after I combined the boxes and it can be done at either step however doing it beforehand is a lot simpler.)Match strip along box front and wrap around bottom. Secure as you did the top.
Sides will not match up along the bottom.
Sew faces onto felt nuggets by creating eyes (doubled over embroidery thread) and cheeks (single strand of embroidery thread) with french knots. Stitch on smile with black embroidery thread. Stitch nugget shapes down as shown with matching thread.
Place boxes together with detailed box on the outside.
Nest boxes together.
Overcast the raw ends together with white thread to connect. If you decided to add the decor to the box afterwards simply stitch on as directed, making sure to only go through one layer of felt so stitches don’t show.
