Felt Friday Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

1 Mar

It’s Seuss’ Birthday and you’re in for a treat – in honor of a guy we never will meet.

His use of color amazing, his words quite astounding.

Teaching lessons so important I don’t mind expounding.

So pull up a chair, grab your coffee and afghan and join in a felt celebration of the man!

Step 2:

Begin cutting random blobs from scraps of fall colored felts.  Place and pin at top, bottom and sides of one of your white felt circles. Try to make each “tree” a little different from the others.  Fill in the rest of the space and pin when the placement looks right.

No Sew Wool Felt Bows, Bowties and Shoe Clips

30 Jun

Felt Bow tutorial

These no sew felt bows are super easy scrap busters.

If you are a Pintrest fan (and lets face it who isn’t) you have probably seen this floating around.

Super cool right!? I immediately knew I needed to make a few billion of these for my newest niece.

The only problem, no templates!

I tried to remake theirs but in the end I just ended up starting from scratch.

wool blend felt bows template  Templates to make bows are at the end of this post

To make the hair bands I measured the “babies” head deducted about a 1/2″ and hot glued stretchy soft elastic together.

Making an elastic headband for babies

And then hot glued the bows to the seam on the headband.

To create the matching bow ties for I made the bow a larger size (templates below) and used Shoe Clips to attach them. Shoe clips ended up being perfect for this project because they hold tight on the thinnest fabric, don’t damage the fabric and have a smooth back so they won’t irritate little ones.

After I completed the bow I simply hot glued the open clip to the back of the larger bows.

Make sure the glue sets before you close them.

Tutorial for felt bows and bow ties from American Felt and CraftAfter making  both a small and large size of every color I could think of  I had to make some shoe clips too.

For these I used the small bow

Something blue - tiny bow shoe clips

Then I made small bows with  some long ribbon shapes.

Soft elastic for baby headbands, I prefer the lightweight lace elastic kind.

And of course the template!
