Easy Felt Elf Hat Placecards

If I got to invite any 3 people to dinner one would most definitely have to be Buddy the Elf (sorry Gandhi)!  Of course that’s if he made it through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops.

In the spirit of the holidays invite some friends to dinner with some Buddy the Elf style place card holders.

You will need:

Green Felt and matching thread – Cilantro

Yellow Felt- Taxi

Red construction paper

A gold pen or pencil

Templates (at bottom of post)

For each place card cut one hat shape from green felt, 1 hat stripe from yellow felt and 1 feather from construction paper.

Step 1:

Pin stripe to hat allowing ends to hang over.

The shape of the hat will keep the stripe from sliding down.

Step 2:

Fold over and sew down the straight edge using a running stitch and matching thread.

Step 3:

Cut out feather shape and notch the sides (with paper scissors people! Paper Scissors!!) Add your guests name in gold pencil or pen

Step 4:  

Turn hat right side out and remove pin. Place the feather into the stripe and you’re done! 

Oh and if Buddy the elf is coming try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.

The super easy 10 minute Cherry on Top Cupcake Hat!

When I spotted my daughters pink knit hat the other day I knew I had to stop everything and fancify it.

10 minutes later I had this awesome cupcake hat.

You will need:

• 1 knit hat (the dollar section of Target’s version seen here)
• Matching thread
• American Felt and Craft Sprinkle beads (or beads of various color)
• Beading or thin needle.
• cherry, wool ball, or pom pom

The knit hat used was double thickness so I was careful to only sew through one of the thicknesses.

The trick here is to sew as few knit stitches as possible so the beads won’t be stretched with the hat.

Begin by threading your beading needle and sewing a tacking stitch to 2 or 3 of the knit stitches, you can hide the knot by positioning the bead over it .

Tack down the opposite side. Since the second layer of knit takes most of the stretching the beads stay put without affecting the fit. Repeat until your happy with the look.

Tack cherry to the top by sewing through the base of the cherry and back through the bottom of the hat since the cherry is placed in the center you can go through both thickesses to help it sit upright without affecting the fit.

And there you are with an awesome hat!

These napkin rings are made from paper but could easily be made in felt.

The post suggests paper but in black, or any of our 140+ colors of  felt, these pilgrim napkin rings would be even more enchanting (and a google eye wouldn’t hurt them either).
