Sugar Skull Sleep Mask

Even light sleepers can sleep like the dead with this easy to stitch and oh so kitsch sleep mask.  This felt eye mask will block out this moral coil whether it’s a quick nap or long sleep. Make your Halloween dreams come true with this spooky cute sleep mask with just a touch of bling. Here’s how to make your own fun felt sugar skull sleep mask.

You will need: 

9″ x  12″ White felt* sheet

Black felt scrap for nose*

4″ x 3″ eye socket and heart color I used Teal*

1″ x 1″ scrap felt for star shapes I used Royal Purple*

3.5″ square scrap felt for rose shape, I used Cream

4″ x 3″ Felt Scrap for flower shapes I used Lavender

4″x 4″ Felt scrap for scalloped eye pieces I used Mauve Taupe 

Black embroidery thread

Sequins, I used lemon chiffon, Hot pink, Mermaid and Grape Soda

15″ Thin elastic –  I used 1/3″ in red

*Matching Thread

1. Sew nose piece to the center of one mask piece.

2. Stack eye pieces on top of scalloped eye pieces and sew down with matching thread.  Sew down heart and star shapes as shown.

3.  Trace out areas to stitch with a pencil.

Using black embroidery thread stitch accents. Add french knots as shown. Place flowers into center of eye sockets and secure with sequins. For more on sewing sequins see our post on sewing sequins to felt, here.

Stitch sequins into areas marked on pattern.

Roll rose shape and secure. Sew rose to top center of mask.

Over cast stitch the two mask pieces together placing elastic into the sides to create a mask.
